EMERGENCY: CALL 911

Call 911 for new, unexplained difficulty breathing, chest pain, coughing up blood or fainting. Do not continue the motions.

DO NOT START: SEEK URGENT MEDICAL CARE

  • Severe knee pain, inability to move the knee or bear weight, major swelling or a change in knee shape.
  • A knee that locks, gives way or clicks painfully.
  • A hot or red knee with fever, chills or feeling unwell.
  • New, unexplained calf or leg pain, swelling, warmth or redness, particularly on one side.

CHECK WITH YOUR CLINICIAN FIRST

If you have a recent injury or surgery, a joint replacement, unexplained symptoms or movement restrictions, ask your doctor or physical therapist whether these specific motions are appropriate. Follow your individual care plan.

STOP RATHER THAN PUSH THROUGH

Stop if a motion causes pain or makes pain worse. Do not push through it. Get clinical advice before trying again; use the urgent or emergency guidance above when relevant.

SET UP SAFELY

Use a stable surface you can get onto and off safely. If you cannot safely reach or leave a position, do not attempt it without appropriate help.

This is not a complete screening checklist. The absence of these warning signs does not establish that this program is suitable for you.
